A Boy Scout Troop 3 Derby Court of Honor was held recently at the troop’s sponsoring organization, Derby 2nd Congregational Church.
Slide presentations were made by the scouts on their travels as representatives of Troop 3. Eagle Scout Neeraj Madivala and Life Scout Michael Neuendorf spoke on their month-long adventure as exchange scouts to Peterborough, England. A similar presentation was made showing the activities enjoyed by Life Scouts Steven Tracz, John Murray and Brian Welch, who were exchange scouts to Limerick, Ireland.
Crew leaders Michael Tracz, Colby McLiverty and Micheal Shea then presented photos of Troop 3’s recent week-long sailing adventure in the Florida Keys as part of the BSA Florida Sea Base high adventure program. Twenty two scouts and leaders, including Limerick, Ireland exchange scouts James Glasson and Cian Neilan, served as the crew and enjoyed fishing, snorkeling and lobstering aboard 50 foot sail boats. Fifteen scouts from the troop along with Assistant Scoutmaster Jim Butler and Crew Advisor Tom Murray will participate as members of Housatonic Council BSA’s contingent attending the 2013 National Scout Jamboree at the Summit Bechtel Reserve in West Virgnia. Scoutmaster Randy Ritter announced plans for Troop 3’s 2014 super trip, a 3-week cross country camping adventure, as part of troop’s 100th anniversary celebration activities.
Senior Patrol Leader Matthew Moran directed the opening of the Court of Honor program. Stuart Oja and Zachary Thomas were welcomed as Troop 3’s newest members. Joe Szewczyk and Aron Zamfino were honored for achieving Star Rank. It was also announced that Evan Altamirano has become Troop 3’s 282nd scout to achieve Eagle Scout Rank since the troop was founded in 1914.

Troop 3 is accepting new members. Boys at least 11 years of age can visit the troop in action 7PM on Wedensdays at Derby 2nd Congregational Church, 136 Elizabeth St, across from the Derby Green.
