
DERBY – Made up of young men ages 11 to 17, from throughout the Valley, Boy Scout Troop 3 Derby will begin its 99th year of Scouting on Sept. 5, 7PM at the Derby Second Congregational Church on Elizabeth Street, across from the Derby Green. Meetings are held at the church each Wednesday through June and all interested boys may visit with a parent or guardian.
The Junior Leaders who run the weekly troop meetings and monthly campouts as members of the Patrol Leaders Council include Senior Patrol Leader Matthew Moran, Assistant Senior Patrol Leaders Ryan Cafaro, Colby McLiverty and Brian Welch, Patrol Leaders Anthony Bartholomew, Joe Szewczyk, Marcel Aguirre, James Butler and Matthew Edwards, Scribe Aron Zamfino, Chaplain Aide James Cobaugh, OA Representative Mike Flora, Webmaster Jason Edwards, Quartermaster Dominic Livoti, Historian Alex Main, Patrol Guide Steve Tracz, Instructors Billy Kowarik, John Murray, Michael Neuendorf and Junior Assistant Scoutmasters Neeraj Madivala, Mike Tracz and Andrew Devine.
Monthly meeting themes include: salesmanship, international, paranormal, history, military/ aviation, technology, astronomy, music, creativity, sports, and shooting sports. Highlighting the year will be attending Strang Scout Reservation summer camp, 2013 National Scout Jamboree and hosting exchange scouts from Derby, England.
The scouts will be offering a free hands-on “Panorama of Scouting” event to introduce the program to all children. The annual event, called Ed Strang Day on the Derby Green in honor of the late Scouting pioneer, will be held at the Derby Green on September 29. For more information call 203 732 0343.
