DERBY – Scouts from Derby 2nd Congregational Church sponsored Troop 3 were recently recognized for earning merit badges and rank advancement.

The Whirling Dervishes Patrol was recognized as the top patrol of the year and the Top 10 scouts earning the most points for the Scout year were: 1st Jimmy Butler, 2nd Ryan Cafaro, 3rd Colby McLiverty, 4th Josh Moscato, 5th Dominic Livoti, 6th Steven Tracz, 7th James Chopak, 8th Alex Main, 9th Matt Edwards and 10th Matt Moran. The top patrol and top 10 scouts were awarded for their efforts with a trip to 6 Flags New England Amusement Park.
Mrs. Katherine Hemstreet received the James E. West Endowment Award from her husband Charles Hemstreet Sr. on behalf of the National Boy Scouts of America for her longtime support of Scouting.
Troop 3 Scouts will be attending two weeks of summer camp at Housatonic Council’s Edmund D. Strang Scout Reservation, located in Goshen. They will also be hosting English exchange scouts James Blount and Jack Tibbett from Peterborough and Irish exchange scouts James Daly and Aiden Long, from Limerick. The exchange scouts will also be joining thirty Troop 3 scouts and leaders on a two-week camping trip in August to the national parks of the Pacific Northwest.
